In the dusts of Iraq, the ruins of the world’s first civilization lie buried.
This episode, we travel into the extremely distant past to look at the Sumerians. These ancient people invented writing and mathematics, and built some of the largest cities that the world had ever seen. Find out about the mystery of their origins, and learn how they rose from humble beginnings to form the foundation of all our modern societies. With myths, proverbs and even some recreated Sumerian music, travel back to where it all began, and find out how humanity’s first civilization fell.
This latest episode on the Sumerians simply just blew my mind…..It was so deep and haunting and puts in perspective the time scales of human civilizations. I’ve just randomly discovered your podcast on a Dan Carlin thread on twitter and could not be happier…this is like an early Christmas gift….i’m blown away by the presentation…and coming at this as a massive Dan Carlin fan, i never thought I’d ever find another history podcast that would engage me in the ways hardcore History could…well I am happy to say I was wrong. Fall Of Civ podcast is just as amazing in my eyes as HH.. i am all in with this podcast, i am a fan for life and will do my best to spread it to as many of my podcast listening friends as i possibly can, and will support you an Patreon as much as I can. Keep up the amazing work Paul and sincerely, thanks again for all the free historical awesomeness 🙂 !

I discovered this podcast on Spotify, and am thoroughly enjoying it. My last episode was the one about the Sumerians, which was especially good. I’m already halfway through episode 9, and am making a Sumerian dish for the family this weekend.
Thank you very much for your fantastic work. I will be signing up to Patreon just to support you.

I have never enjoyed any single podcast episode as much as enjoyed the hauntingly beautiful description of the first cities. I came to know about the greatness of Sumerians while I was reading Sapiens. I searched more about it and a friend recommended me this episode. Needless to say, I was hooked and I finished 3 episodes in a row. Your content is terrific and a mind opener. Can’t support on Patreon, as of now. I hope my comment conveys my gratitude.
Keep it up, Paul.
Best Wishes.

Just finished episode 8 and I think it is the one the best podcast/documentary on the subject.
The part about the lament for Ur-Nammu was beautiful and sad.(love the music)
The ending was very emotional and thought-provoking.
Thank you M. Cooper
